The Isuzu General Motors Holden Jackaroo had a mid-term update in late 1999 for the 2000 model year. The most notable mechanical change was in the transmission: Base models retained the part-time manual four wheel drive system with manual locking free wheel hubs, but the SE Jackaroos got a push-button "torque on demand" system, i.e. an electrically operated multi-plate clutch to take drive to the front wheels.

Low range is still selected by a lever mounted on the floor. The 3.5 litre V6 petrol engine produces 158kW at 5400rpm and 310Nm at 3000rpm.

The 3 litre diesel (118kW at 3900rpm, 333Nm at 2000rpm) Jackaroos got the option of a 4-speed automatic transmission in late 1999.

The diesel is one of the modern common-rail diesel engines, which use very high pressure fuel delivery of 40,000kPa to hydraulic/electronic injectors operating at tip pressures up to 140,000kPa.
